You Don’t Need a New Year. You Need a New Moment.
Can we talk about how much pressure we put on starting over?
New week. New month. New year. New version of you.
It sounds empowering, but most of the time it just leaves us stuck in this strange waiting room called not yet.
Not yet organised enough.
Not yet confident enough.
Not yet healed enough.
So nothing changes… because we’re waiting for permission that never comes
The Quiet Cost of Waiting
I've spent far too long in that waiting room myself.
Not backing myself.
Putting everyone else first.
Being incredible at helping other people move forward… while quietly standing still.
And I always had a reason.
And I’ve spent so many seasons of my life thinking:
“I’ll start when things calm down.”
“When I have more energy.”
“When I’ve got my head together.”
“I’m just busy right now.”
“I’ll come back to this when things slow down.”
“Everyone else needs me.”
Oh the list is endless! Busyness became the most convincing excuse of all.
But life doesn’t really calm down, does it?
It just changes the type of chaos.
And while we’re waiting for the perfect moment, the version of us that wants more - more ease, more confidence, more alignment - is still there, patiently tapping on the inside.
Not shouting.
Just waiting to be chosen.
But the truth?
I wasn’t lazy. I was scared to choose myself.
What If Today Isn’t a Restart… Just a Return?
What if today isn’t about reinventing yourself?
What if it’s just about returning to something you’ve drifted from?
-
Your body.
-
Your creativity.
-
Your boundaries.
-
Your sense of I actually matter too.
No dramatic transformation required.
No colour-coded life plan.
Just one moment of honesty with yourself.
The Myth of “When I Have Time”
Let me tell you something I wish I’d learned sooner.
You don’t find time for the things that change your life.
You make tiny pockets of courage inside the life you already have.
It looks like:
-
Stretching for 60 seconds before the shower.
-
Writing three messy sentences.
-
Saying no without a justification essay.
-
Drinking water before coffee (I know… radical).
Not glamorous.
But wildly powerful.
You’re Not Behind
If you’re reading this and thinking, “This is me. Always waiting. Always busy.”
I see you - because I was you. And some days am still you.
I know it feels like everyone else is flying and you’re crawling.
But you are not behind.
You are becoming.
At your pace.
In your way.
With the capacity you have today - not the fantasy version of yourself you keep punishing yourself for not being yet.
A Tiny Practice for Tonight
Before you go to bed, try this:
Ask yourself, gently:
What did I do today that Future Me will be grateful for?
It might be small.
It might be quiet.
It might not even look like progress from the outside.
But it counts.
Because you’re not here to keep starting over.
You’re here to keep evolving - moment by moment, breath by breath, becoming more you than you were yesterday. 💜
